Historic Setting
The Red Lion Inn in Old Shoreham began as an 16th-century cottage in the heart of the village, close to the historic St Nicolas’ Church. It was later converted into a public house, with further extensions added during the 18th and 19th centuries as coaching traffic and riverside travel increased.
By the mid-19th century, The Red Lion had become a well-established local landmark, closely connected to the growth of Old Shoreham and its links to the River Adur, Old Shoreham Road and the wider Sussex transport network.
